Last week 30 students participated in Skyview's 2nd Annual Spelling Bee.
The competition was tough and took almost 4 hours to crown the winners.
1st place - Mihir Rai!

3rd place - Sushmita Musunuri - 8th grade

    • WHEN: January 29, 2020, Canyon Creek Cafeteria
    • TIME: 5pm - 8pm
    • RULES: Please ensure you have read the eligibility criteria and the official rules found by clicking here.
      • Families should review all rules and guidelines posted. It is the speller’s responsibility to understand the rules and regulations of the spelling bee.
      • 1 Record Keeper needed
    •  The SCRIPPS rules will be followed for the school competition. Families should review all rules and guidelines posted on the Skyview PTSA Spelling Bee link. It is the speller’s responsibility to understand the rules and regulations of the Spelling Bee.
    • The School Spelling Bee will include some words that appear on the word list, however, spelling bee words are not limited to word list and students will be presented with words that are not on any study list. Words will be presented in random order. The word list will be emailed to the parents/guardians of registered students.
    • All words on Scripps National Spelling Bee word lists are entries in Merriam-Webster Unabridged, the official dictionary of the Scripps National Spelling Bee, available at Please refer to the Rules link above.
    • There won't be any practice sessions in school. Students must study these words at home.
    • Students only need to spell the word. Vocabulary is just to help students understand the word.
    • Students can find all the words from the 2020 School Spelling Bee Study List in the Bee's Great Words, Great Works reading list. It includes 18 titles that are engaging and reading level-appropriate for elementary and middle schools students. By reading the books, students can gain a deeper understanding of the School Spelling Bee Study List by finding the 450 words within the stories. The list will be emailed to parents together with the word list.
    • The winner of our school will move on to the Regional level and represent Skyview. If our Spelling Bee Champion cannot attend the Regional level Spelling Bee, our School Bee runner-up will be asked to attend the Regional Bee. NEW THIS YEAR- Students will need to take a qualifying written test in order to participate in the Regional Bee. Information will be provided later on in the year.
    • Regional Spelling Bee of King and Snohomish County
    • Location: Town Hall, Seattle
    • Date & Time: 2/29/2020,1pm, Spellers must arrive 1 hour prior to start.
    • Our school winner and runner up will be given a new set of 4000 words to study for the Regional level
  • The winner of Regional level moves on to national finals in Washington, D.C.
  • Any transportation/travel costs incurred are up to the participants.
